Cabbage Chutney

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 Cups Cabbage
  • 1/2 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  • 1/4 Cup Toor dal
  • 6 Greenchillies
  • 3 red dry chillies
  • 4-5 Cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • Lemon sized Tamarind (soaked)
  • Salt to taste
For seasoning
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Asafoetida- a pinch
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp  mustard seeds

Method
 

  1. Steam medium sized chopped cabbage for about 8-10 minutes, and keep aside
  2. Heat oil and roast Dhaniya seeds, Toor dal, green chillies, red dry chillies, garlic and cumin seeds on very low frame until a golden brown color
  3. Put the roasted dal, and soaked tamarind in a mixer jar and let it cool
  4. Cook the steamed cabbage in a little oil till the cabbage loses its typical raw smell
  5. Add required water to dal mixture and grind to coarse paste
  6. Add the cooked cabbage with little bit of salt and grind again into a paste
  7. Heat oil and add all seasoning ingredients one by one. Mix seasoning mixture into ground chutney and serve!
