Green gram dosa/Pesarattu

A traditional Green gran dosa (pesarattu) made from whole moong beans, packed with protein and essential nutrients. Best enjoyed with mixed vegetable or ginger chutney for a wholesome breakfast.

Green gram dosa/Pesarattu

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup Whole Moong Beans
  • 2 tbsp Rice-Optional
  • ½ cup Water – For Blending
  • 1 inch Ginger – Peeled And Chopped 
  • 1 Green Chilli Chopped 
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Leaves – Chopped
  • 1 Onion, Chopped - For Topping, Optional
  • 1 Pinch Asafoetida 
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
  • Salt As Required

Method
 

  1. Firstly, rinse the moong beans and rice. Then soak the moong beans and rice for 4 to 6 hours or overnight in enough water. 
  2. Drain and add the moong beans and rice together with ginger,green chilies, asafoetida, cumin seeds, coriander leaves and salt in a grinder or blender. 
  3. Add water and grind into a fine and smooth batter. 
  4. The consistency should be similar to a regular dosa batter. 
  5. Heat a skillet or flat pan, With a ladle, pour the pesarattu batter on the skillet and spread the batter into a round shape.
  6. Drizzle some oil on the sides and in the center of the pesarattu dosa.
  7. Sprinkle the finely chopped onions, green chilies and coriander leaves.
  8. Press these with the spatula so that they get stuck to the batter which is getting cooked.
  9. Flip and cook both sides a couple of times till crisp and browned.
  10. Serve the green gram dosa or pesarattu with ginger based veg chutney.
